I am currently considering purchase of a half case to a case of champagne and or sparkling wine for the holiday season, but can't decide how to apply the funds. With all of the grower champagne choices out there it has never been easier to get quality at a decent price. But then I have also been considering domestic, though I have had very little experience with domestic sparkling wine, and most of that not good. Specifically I am considering the Gloria Ferrer that WS just gave a 93, based not only on that recommendation, but also on the fact that many people have told me that Ferrer makes a very high quality domestic sparkler. The other option is Argyle's extended tirage, which also enjoys a solid reputation. So what are people's thoughts on this, are domestics up to snuff yet, or with the wealth of choice in unique champagne, should I stick with the traditional?

gotta love the sparklers. for domestication, i highly recommend schramsberg. IMHO, they are the best domestic producer and hugh davies is a friend of mine. for shampain from the france, there are so many excellent ones to choose from. depends on your pain threshold, but i've found that bollinger makes some excellent ones up and down the price scale. i'm particularly fond of their grand annee.
