Needs at LEAST one hour in a decanter. Not well balanced. Astringent. Tasted light to medium bodied. I think the 2000 Cabernet, rated at 88 points, tasted better.

Don`t expect much from this vintage.

Took about an hour in a decanter for the aromas to unfold. Not decanting this wine would be a tragedy. It has wonderful potential if drank properly.

A dark rubly color. Blackberry, cherry, and slight almond aromas. Huge flavors of vanilla, black cherry and cedar. Splendid wine!

Buy a few of these bottles. I wouldn`t pay more than $60-$70.

2000 Phelps, Joseph Insignia Proprietary Red Wine Proprietary Blend
As Bad As The 2000 Vintage Should Be

The 2000 vintage does not do justice to the notoriously masculine Insignia. Save your money. Don`t buy this wine. Wait until March and buy the 2001 Insignia. 2000 Insignia was boring. I think water has more body than the 2000. Lacked a flavor of anything and smelled like cardboard.

It would be a better idea to spend the same amount of money and only get "three" 2001 Insignia`s than to opt for "six" 2000 Insignia`s.

I wouldn`t pay more than $70 per bottle.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced cabernet, buy this! The 1999 vintage was not the greatest in the last decade, but this wine is huge! Wonderful aroma of cocoa, coffee, and black licorice. Perfectly balanced, absolutely full-bodied. Wonderful finish of vanilla makes this wine extremely easy to drink.

I think the wine can be drunk now, but will evolve wonderfully over the next 5 years.
