Anthony A.	Rated on Jun 13, 2008 Decanted the Poyferre about four hours. Nose initially was closed but opened up to reveal lily/lilac, leather,splice, and black plum. It started out as an elegant wine with ripe sweet tannins and gained weight over the course of the night and just seemed to get better and better. By hour 7, the wine was fully open and very expressive in both the palate and a good 40 second finish. Very good St. Julien winery. 1 Toast Toast this Review

The 2001 Leoville-Poyferre is drinkable already, although it improves with aeration and will undoubtedly be better in 3-5 years. It provides delightful flavors of sweet, creamy black- and redcurrant, plums, blood/iron, and a hint of underbrush. This is immensely pleasurable to drink now, and if anything might be accused of being too upfront by those who like their wines tougher and more austere.

2001 Chateau Leoville Poyferre St. Julien

Excellent nose of fresh berries, cassis, and pine. On the palate the tannins are fine, there is decent complexity and a rich layered aspect to the wine. Good balance and a med-long finish. 92+
