Chateau Palmer Bordeaux Blend 1983
wine of the vintage?

Everytime I have had the Palmer served with the Margaux the Palmer has out performed the Margaux.  When I have the Palmer by itself it hasn't performed well. Of the last two bottles, one was flawed, and the other was just so-so. The wine was lighter in color than the previous tastings. The wine was also  much leaner and tannic in the mouth. While not without charm it did not live up to the expectations nor did it really have the typical flavor profile. I guess this wine has a lot of bottle variance both inb regards to taste and quality.

This wine gets my vote for wine of the vintage. Had this along side the 83 margaux and this was heads and shoulders above it. Thick dense and fuller bodied then the margaux. The wine has a wonderful all spice in the nose and midpalate that is just pure silk and layer upon layer. Great complexity and balance. This wine is a wine to judge all others by. I think it is now at its peak where it should stay of years to come.
