The 160+ year old House of Krug constructs this multi-vintage Champagne Krug Brut Grande Cuvee. In the glass, this Krug is golden in color. There is a slow, percolating flow of bubbles. Aromas are deep, rich, with a golden yeasty musty aroma. On the palate, there is a round aromatic feel, smooth and funky, with a visit by very ripe melons. It is a round sensation, but lifted by sweet, full acids. It sports an even, lengthy finish. Three stars out of five.More reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com.

WOW!

This is the kind of Champagne that makes you want to grab your checkbook and buy by the case. The color is that of dark straw with a nose of honey, nuts and citrus. In the mouth this just pops with flavors of citrus and apple. Heavy in the mouth almost creamy with a bit of acidity but not overwhelming.

Wow...

The NV Krug is consistently impressive. New bottlings (the all-gold label rather than the old red & gold one) show a lot of oak, and my impression is that they could use a good bit of time to settle down. Right now it is pleasing from a biggish glass, which gives the wine some room to breathe and lets the oak blow off a bit. This wine`s balance, depth, and complexity are very impressive - try opening a bottle alongside something more pedestrian, like a standard $30-50 NV bottling... it will amaze you.

Magnums are Better

Sampled 1/9/05. I`ve had this wine many times but never in Magnum. I don`t know if I was prejudiced by the elegance of the bottle, but it seemed a little better in Magnum format - slightly crisper with a slightly better acid/sugar balance. Subtle honey, apricot and citrus flavors that eventually give way to long finish with hazelnuts at the very end.
