Sampled 12/17/05 in Magnum. This magnum was uncorked and not even decanted. What a waste!!!! The wine was so closed that you could stick your nose in it for hours and drink the entire bottle yourself and never know you were drinking wine. Only the rich purple/garnet color gave you any indication the liquid involved was red wine. Nonetheless, if all your senses were operating at peak levels, you could readily discern that this is going to be one of the greatest Napa wines ever produced, if you are alive long enough to drink it when it comes out of its coma.

Very good but not IMHO a great wine.

Dark purple at the core with ever so slight bricking at the edges of the glass. The wine feels heavy in the glass. Initially on the nose I get cherries, tobacco, cedar, and funk. The funk gives way after about an hour in the decanter replaced with licorice. On the palate this wine still has strong firm tannins to go with a strong fruit driven core. I`m not seeing the graceful right bank bordeaux palate. Very good wine but not great! 94 points.

Don't Open It Yet

Sampled 11/27-28/04. There are few wines that have the depth of color as this wine. I had this wine 16 months ago and it took 8 hours of decanting before it opened up. This time we, decanted the wine for 24 hours and it was still closed and tannic, willing to only unleash the smallest hints of how big this wine really is. I think the wine is going through an awkward stage of development and it might be years before it comes out of it. Keep this baby on its side for another 5 years before trying it. You won`t miss its peak in another dozen or more.
