Dark and extracted. I'm wondering if this was finished in a sherry cask, because the nose had this sherry note to it. It also had black cherry, warm dirt and vanilla. In the mouth, a monster. Spicy and quite tight. If you're buying a bottle or two, keep your hands off it for 8-10 years.

2001 Masi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Serego Alighieri Vaio Armaron: After aging and before bottling, this wine saw two months in a cherrywood cask. Deep brick red color. Earthy nose, with a moldy cheese note. Also stewed fruit and you could definately get the cherry cask smell as well. Bright acidity, wonderful structure and balance. Stewed fruit plus earthy finish. This was a treat.

Very dark in the glass. Very fruity and oaky nose. I really, really enjoyed the 2004 and it's under $35 a bottle. If the 2005 is the same price, I'll buy a case. But it won't be. Very good wine, though B+/A-

Another great one. Beautiful bright purple color. Lots of sweet berry fruit in the nose. Almost sweet in the mouth. Not as much tannins as most of the wines there. Great balance. Consider yourself lucky is you have this coming.

One of our customers came in on Christmas Eve and popped this. What a wine. I got a lot of mint, choclate, cassis, black cherry and some earthiness. Awesome balance in the mouth, lots of fruit and earth. Long, long finish...

Popped and decanted. Consumed one hour later. Transparent brick red in the glass. Nose of olive, dusty soil, pepper, toasty oak, mint, vanilla. In the mouth, bright acidity initally and it rounded out as it was consumed. Earthy and peppery notes with blueberry, cranberry and raspberry flavors. Wonderful balanced finish. It's all there right now.

|
| 2002 - Cos d'Estournel |

Popped and checked to see if decanting was needed. It was not needed. Dark purple color, fairly exctracted. Nose of new French oak, cassis, wet stone. Awesome nose, no hint of alcohol. In the mouth, smooth, low acidity, up front fruit, fine tannins. Great balance. Outstanding super second. Best Bordeaux to date for me.

| 2000 - Jaboulet Aine, Paul Hermitage la Petite Chapelle |

|
|
|
Popped and consumed two hours later. Translucent light purple color, with a little bricking. Fleshy, peppery nose, with fresh cranberry and raspberry notes. Warm and spicy in the mouth. There was some acidity present as well. I think this would be better with food. Might have been an off bottle. It was semi-enjoyable.

|
Popped and poured. Dark inky purple color. Nose of Chambord, dark berries and some toasty oak. Full bodied, great fruit that balanced out some acidity. Great bottle of wine.

| May 15, 2008 |

|
Light bright purple color, quite transparent. Peppery nose, with tart cherries and spice. Light, peppery and fruity with a nice amount of acidity. Not worth the release price of $50, but still a decent bottle of Pinot. Drink now

|
| 9998 - Taylor Twenty Year Tawny Port |
| May 15, 2008 |
|
|
|
Popped and poured. After 9 reds this wine was like jetfuel. Explosive nose of caramel, butterscotch, brandied raisins and quite a bit of heat. Should have lowered the temp a bit. Nice sweetness and mouthfeel. Quite spicy, almost like a single malt scotch spiciness. This went wonderfully with a Roaring Forties Bleu Cheese. Great porto.
|
|
| 2003 - Ramey Jericho Canyon Vineyard Proprietary Red Wine |
| May 15, 2008 |
|
|
|
Popped and poured. Opaque purple color. Nose of cassis, black cherry, and cooked fleshy red fruits. Medium to full bodied. Nice structure, balance and tannins, but the flavors were a little off. Almost medicinal. Needs some time.

|
| 2002 - Latour, Domaine Louis Corton Grancey |
| May 15, 2008 |

|
Popped and consumed two hours later. Lots of fresh cranberry and tart cherry notes in the nose. Not too much earthiness, which was unexpected. Fresh and light in the mouth with nice acidity. Try in five years. B+

| 2001 - Voerzio, Roberto Barolo Brunate |
| May 15, 2008 |
|
|
|
Splash decanted and breathed for 1 hour. Brick red color, fairly extracted and translucent. Explosive nose of licorice, anis, roses, ripe strawberries, mineral and mint. I waited a solid ten minutes to taste this. Very bright and balanced in the mouth. Dark fruits were present wrapped up with the silkiest, sweet tannins. Long finish. Ready at the moment, I hope I can try this in 10 years. Easily the best red I've had.
|
|
| 2004 - Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard |
| May 15, 2008 |
|
|
|
Cloudy and bright yellow with a green tint in the glass. Nose of white peach, honeydew, citrus and baking spice. Wonderful. This was probably the most balanced wine I've tasted. The oak, the creaminess and the acidity were present but all worked together to make a great, great wine. Reminds me of a great Puligny-Montrachet.
|
|
| 2004 - Leoville-Poyferre |
| May 15, 2008 |

|
Opaque purple color. Graphite, licorice, dark fruits and very perfumed. Very nice structure and balance, with round tannins.
|
|
| 2005 - Two Hands Semillon Cane Cut For Love or Money |
| May 15, 2008 |
|
|
|
This was an interesting bottle of wine. Bright amber color, very thick. Nose of honey, dried apricot and a bit of saffron. I'm not sure if this was naturally infected with botrytis or not. Full bodied, creamy and too sweet. Like a sweet honey/vanilla creme brulee. Super long finish, however. It just needs some more acidity. It was okay.
|
|
| 2003 - Lascombes |
| May 15, 2008 |

|
|
Popped and double decanted. Dark, dark purple color. Nose was fairly closed, initially. Lots of dusty, loamy soil and lead pencil. Then it turned into black cherry, cassis, coffee bean and cocoa. Wonderful mouthfeel. Balanced, medium bodied, low acidity, round tannins and a black cherry finish.

|
Beautiful transparent, bright purple color. Blueberries and raspberries dominate the nose, with some nice new oaky/vanilla flavors. Firm acidity with berry flavors in the mouth. There's a little heat on the finish, just needs a year or two to mellow. This is a great QPR Burgundy.
|
|

90% Semillion Grapefruity, grassy nose initially, very surprizing. It turned to the normal, pleasent mix of tropical fruits and saffron. Very tropical in the mouth. Passionfruit, melon and a bit of botrytis. Sauternes is my favorite type of wine, this was the best Sauternes I've ever had. Outstanding wine.

|
| 2002 - Pichon-Longueville Baron |
| May 15, 2008 |

|
Dark and extracted with some dark purple edging. Casis, mineral tar, vanilla and blackberry. After some time, vanilla became more apparent with some coffee aromas as well. Medium bodied, with tart blackberry flavors. Soft, spicy tannins and a fairly short finish. This will work with a steak, but I don't think this is worth $50 a bottle.

| May 15, 2008 |

Virgin olive oil color. Sweet honeysuckle, maple syrup, canned pineapple and fresh apricot in the nose. Full bodied, near perfect balance. Fine tannin and a long spicy finish. Loved it.

| Not every day you get to taste an $80 bottle of wine on the clock. Splash decanted and breathed for 30 minutes. Deep concentrated dark purple. Lovely French oak, dark berries, some baking spice as well. Full bodied but very a refreshingly long, vanilla latent finish. Round tannins. What a treat. Let this sleep for 3 or 4 years.

Tasted today at a South America tasting. Beautiful translucent, dark purple color. Nose of cherries, cut grass, wet soil, anis, cassis and some cigar box action. Really no fruit showing today. A little green. It shows promise, solid structure and long finish.

| Drank at Courtrights in the Chicago suburbs. This was recorked in 2005, which was quite surprizing (Also 15% alcohol.) Beautiful golden amber color. The nose was etheral. Orange blossom honey, burnt sugar and caramel also present. Full bodied, etheral and balanced. Lots of caramel, got hints of amaretto, too. The finish was very spicy. We drank this with foie gras, creme brulee and a browned butter almond cake. The cake was unbelievable. It paired very well. Not so well with the creme. The burnt sugar was too much. The sommelier enjoyed this as well. Though this was my first truely aged Sauternes, I didn't enjoy it as much as the 2003 Lafaurie. 94 pts.

|
Very nice first experience with Amarone. Dark brick red color. Nose of sweet cherries, rasins and a bit of anis. Medium bodied, nice balance, not too sweet. It didn't have much of a finish. Still tasty, though. I cooked for some friends and had opened this just because. Went quite well with pasta with a sun dried tomato pesto.

| 1998 - Col Solare Proprietary Red |

|
Very tasty wine. Deep purple with slight bricking. Nose of sweet cherries, chocolate, fresh basil and some meatyness as well. If this was a blind tasting I'd figure a Syrah from this region. Soft wine and soft round tannins. Paired nicely with hot smoked bone-in prime rib.

Infantacide indeed. Popped from cellar and poured to taste. The darkest wine I've seen. It looked like black coffee with a brick red tint. Initially, musty and woody. Left it alone in the bottle for 12 hours. Gave it a sniff still closed and musty. Decanted and left alone for another 8 hours. Got home from a Christmas celebration and it was finally showing well. Coffee and dark chocolate aromas dominated the nose, along with dark berries. It was a little bit hollow. Fairly acidic but very refreshing. Fine tannins. Long finish. I'm not opening any more bottles for another 7 years.

Beautiful golden amber color. Closed nose, showed ripe pineapple, dried apricot, burnt sugar and grapefruit. Later on it showed some vanilla and candied cherries. Full bodied, started sweet and finished tart. Reminded my friend and I of Sweetarts candy. Grapefruit dominated the finish. I'd try this with Creme Brulee, might work really well with each other. This will be drinkable for a long time to come. Very happy with this wine. 94+

I love this wine. I had it in Chicago and it smelled like Napa on a

I was not a fan of this wine. With food I think this would be fine. Lots
of lemon and vanilla in the nose. In the mouth, puckering acidity, with
key lime and spice notes. This did not go any malolactic fermentation
and I feel it could have used some. C+/B-

I knew it was going to be good, but I didn't think it was going to be
the best red wine I've had. I smelled this for about five minutes
before I tasted. Loads of creme di cassis, baking spice and ripe
cherry. In the mouth, full bodied, silky tannins and a long (60sec+)finish.

acidity but a good amount of fruit to balance everything out. Lots of
dried fruit character in the mouth. Very solid Brunello. A-/A

Popped, shaken and poured. Dark opaque purple color towards the rim. Way

notes as well. In the mouth, full bodied, bright acidity, fine tannins.
Nothing in balance (yet.) B at this point, don't

This is the kind of Champagne that makes you want to grab your
checkbook and buy by the case. The color is that of dark straw with a
nose of honey, nuts and citrus. In the mouth this just pops with
flavors of citrus and apple. Heavy in the mouth almost creamy with a
bit of acidity but not overwhelming.

Tasted 12 hours after opening. 75% Merlot, 25% Cab Sauv. Dark and dense
purple in the glass that stains the glass. Lovely nose of creme de
cassis, ripe blackberries and black cherry. If I tasted the blind, the
nose would have thrown me off. The nose screams Napa Cab. In the mouth,
though, powerful mouth coating tannins, earthy and a long, tight
finish. It stays with you. It needs at least 6 months to mellow out. I
won't open this for another 2 years. Great QPR for 2005 Bordeaux.

full bodied. Bright acidity, nice fruit and fine tannins. It's a little
bit musty and tight at this point, though. I'm not popping another for
5+ years.

This screams Pauilliac. Lead pencil and ripe fruit on the nose. This
needs at least a decade with an awesome amount of sweet tannin. With
air it can be "enjoyed."

Dark purple color. Sweet and ripe nose, including sweet black cherry,
raspberry, cassis, menthol, coffee, and a little bit of heat. In the
mouth, heavier and less acidity than the 2004. It's a bit tight at this
point, but IMO this wine will be better than the 2003 vintage. Good Cab.

59% Merlot, 36% Cab Franc, 5% Petit Verdot.
Very nice opaque bright purple color that stains the glass. Nose of
vanilla, warm, dry earth, and ripe, dark berries. In the mouth, bright
acidity, nice amount of fruit and fine tannins. Hold off popping a year
or so. Very solid wine.

Popped and poured. Fairly translucent purple color. Nose of coffee,
mocha, cassis, ripe black cherries and dry earth. Nice structure, good
fruit, including black cherry, quite bright as well. Very good cab that
will rival any Napa Cab costing twice the price.

Popped and decanted for cork particles. Despite the nasty cork, this
was showing strong. Very dense brick red color. Perfumed nose with soft
leather, dusty soil, tart raspberries and cassis. In the mouth, medium
to full body, bright and balanced with fine tannins. Lots of fruit, not
over the top, wonderful, wonderful wine. If you have some, pop soon.

Popped and poured. Dark dense purple color. Nose of cola, chambord, and
this dusty gamey note. Huge in the mouth. Full bodied, cherry cola,
ripe raspberries, baking spice, and spicy tannins. Wonderful wine, this
is ready right now.

Tasted blind. Deep, dark purple color. Nose of creme de cassis,
blueberry coulis, just all fruit. In the mouth, full bodied, a little
out of balance, indicating quality and youth. I guessed 2001 Oakville Cab.
The person pouring gave me three guesses and I got Plumpjack on the
thrid guess. Needs to hibernate.

Tasted Blind: Dark dense purple color. Rich and fruity nose, with
vanilla, sweet cassis and some baking spice notes. Full bodied, fruit
forward and creamy in the mouth. Everything was in balance,
fruit/tannins/acidity. Great vino.

Notes taken from memory. This really opened up after1 hour. Perfumed
nose of cassis, dry earth, tart raspberry and baking spice. Full bodied
and almost creamy in the mouth. There is a nice amount of fruit and
great balance. I'd love to have more of this.

Nice, deep ruby color. This is the most unique cab, I've had. Nose of
marishino cherry, blueberry and honeysuckle. In the mouth, medium to
full body, cherry cola flavors throughout. Awesome wine.
